My hope is that these instructions will help a lot of visitors to my site that choose to use my stationery. You may need to read all of them to find the answer to your question. You will need a basic knowledge of computing. |

| Installing the Stationery |
To install the stationery, find where you have placed the self extracting zip file on your computer. Once you have located the file double click on it. This will open up a small information window. Once you have read the information (this will show you how to use the stationery) click on ok and another small window showing the path the file will be installed into will appear. Just click the unzip tab and the stationery will be installed. When this is done you will find that the html file has been installed into C:\Program File\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery you will also notice a new folder called "ruthshaven". DO NOT remove that folder as it holds all the graphics etc needed to use the stationery.
Using the Stationery
This is a more comprehensive set of instructions on how to use my stationery.
Open Outlook Express and go to Message - New Message Using - Select Stationery, this will bring up a small window, browse till you find the stationery you just installed, click on it once then click ok.
If you wish to view the stationery as it will look once it is sent click on view once the New Message window has come up then source edit. This will give you three tabs at the bottom of the stationery.
The first tab is the edit tab which you will need to be on when typing your email onto your stationery.
the second tab is the source tab which will show you the coding.
The third tab is the preview tab, click on this once you have finished writing your email and you will be able to see what your email is going to look like to your recipient.
Entering text into the Stationery
When entering text into the email using my stationery please be really careful. You will need to double click on some of the stationery to be able to enter the text. If there are instructions telling you to backspace to delete text that is already there please do it very carefully and DO NOT highlight the text and delete it. If you do you may also delete some of the html code which will then cause the stationery not to work correctly. If this happens you will need to close down that stationery and start again. |

General Information
This stationery is specifically for Outlook Express. Users of AOL will only receive components of the stationery as attachments. I have email accounts at both Hotmail and Yahoo, and have requested at both sites that I view the emails in html version. I then sent myself the same piece of email stationery. If you send an email using stationery to someone using Hotmail and they have the html setting enabled they will receive the graphics in the stationery as blacked out attachments and Hotmail will ask if you wish to view the graphics. If yes is ticked the recipients will get something that looks like graphic 1. If you send the stationery to someone using Yahoo and they have the html settings enabled they will more than likely get the actual settings minus the pictures as in graphic 2. Users of programs such as Netscape (who have their own email clients) will not be able to view the stationery.
If the recipient of your email is using Incredimail, they will be able to view the stationery but they will not be able to forward that same stationery on to another person.
MS Outlook is a completely different program, and users may experience problems due to the way the stationery installs. There may be other problems to which there are no known answers.
If you are using Outlook Express 5 or below, there may be problems with using the majority of stationery from this site. You would be better off going to the Microsoft site and downloading the latest version of both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. The latest version on the Microsoft site is Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 6.
If you are using Windows XP, you are already using Outlook Express 6.0. Outlook Express 6 comes with default settings that will prevent the use of some of the stationery features. To fix this use the instructions below.
* Run Outlook Express 6, click on Tools and then on Options, In the resulting Options window, click on the Security tab, then under Virus Protection, select Internet Zone, Click OK to exit.

| Windows Updates and Patches |
There are numerous problems that have occurred with stationery after users have installed Microsoft updates and patches. There are some comprehensive answers to problems that have occurred on the Letterman Stationery site by Bill Scott.
If you have Windows Media Player 9 you will find that it disables some of the stationery effects. This problem can be fixed via the windows registry on your hard drive by using a small program found on the (Letterman Stationery site by Bill Scott). Download the Windows Media Player 9 Registry Toolkit. Full instructions are given.
Hotbar is a "free" program that has been found to cause some problems for stationery users. Hotbar also installs what is called spy ware onto your computer which allows people to track your movements while you are online. It is strongly suggested that you remove hotbar from your computer.
After you have uninstalled Hotbar, there are a number of things you may need to do, one is to open Outlook Express, click on Tools - Options - Send - HTML Settings and make sure you have 'Send pictures with Messages' ticked. The other is a suggestion that you download a program called AdAware to remove any spy ware from your system.
When making your own stationery it is better to use a windows installed font otherwise your recipient may not be able to view the font correctly. All they will see is Arial. In some of my stationery I have used what is called embedded fonts. These are sets of named fonts that are embedded into the stationery enabling your recipient to view them as they were intended.
