Title - Kookaburra

Scientific Name:- Dacelo novaeguineae

  Picture of a Kookaburra Description:
No bird epitomizes the Australian bush more than the kookaburra, mainly due to its unique and comical call. Males and females are similar in colour with a white head and underparts, chocolate brown stripe through their eyes and brown wings and back. the wings are also spotted with pale iridescent blue to a greater or lesser extent, with males often being slightly more heavily marked. the tail is rufous brown with black bars.

  Habitat:
Despite its familiarity, kookaburras only occur naturally in the eastern third of the country. Populations have been introduced to southwestern Australia and to Tasmania. Many habitats are utilised but treed country is preferred. Urban areas are also popular as food sources provided by humans offer easy pickings.
